Neighborhood Credit Union is Hosting A Coin Drive in September and Going Coinless Starting October 1

Published August 31, 2020

Unexpected business closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have caused a nationwide coin “shortage,” or more accurately – a circulation problem. Neighborhood CU is committed to doing our part to keep coins circulating within our Dallas/Fort Worth community by organizing a coin drive to help boost coin replenishment to our local Federal Reserve Bank.

While coins have not exactly disappeared, the shortage has occurred because people are staying home more and not using coins for everyday purchases. This has created a coin disruption across the country, making it harder for individuals and businesses to get a hold of the currency.

Starting September 9, you can bring your rolled coins to select Neighborhood CU locations and make a coin deposit into your account. We can only accept rolled coin, so please visit any Neighborhood CU branch for your free coin wrappers.

Which Neighborhood CU branches are participating in the rolled coin drive?

Neighborhood CU will host a coin drive at designated branch locations every Wednesday beginning September 9th. We encourage you to join our efforts by bringing your rolled coin deposits to one of the coin drive stations located at the following Neighborhood CU branches: Arlington, Coppell, Duncanville, Mesquite, and North Dallas.

What days can I deposit my rolled coins?

Every Wednesday beginning September 9th

How do I deposit my rolled coins?

Take a drive to one of the five designated branches, look for a Neighborhood Credit Union branded tent and place your rolled coins in a bucket that will be provided. A Neighborhood Credit Union team member will take your rolled coins inside of the branch to deposit your coins while you wait in your car. Once your coins are deposited into your account, the team member will bring out your transaction slip.

Neighborhood CU Branches are Going Coinless on October 1st

Starting October 1, Neighborhood CU will go coinless at all branch locations in order to keep coins going back to our local businesses. Our coin drive is to aid in combating the shortage and encourage members to put their coins back into circulation.  You can continue to help by paying with exact change whenever possible. Come help us make a difference as we support local businesses and our communities!
